Sycamore Park to Triple in Size
Batavia, Ohio. The Clermont County Park District has been awarded an $845,000 grant from the Clean Ohio Fund to expand Sycamore Park from 53 acres to 158 acres. “This will make Sycamore the largest of Clermont County’s Parks,” said Clermont Park District Director Chris Clingman. “The additional land will be kept as a natural area with hiking trails. We hope to close on the property later this year and have the park addition open to citizens by spring.” Sycamore Park is located at 4082 SR 132 in Batavia Township.
Clermont Commissioner Bob Proud, who is also a member of Clean Ohio District 10 NRAC (Natural Resource Advisory Council), congratulated the park district for its successful application. “This was the top rated project in the district,” said Proud. “The wooded trails, picnic shelters, and recreational sites at the park will provide an excellent spot for families to enjoy quality time together for decades to come.”
The 105-acre land purchase, which includes a 25-acre island in the East Fork of the Little Miami River, will provide protection to 7,941 feet of river frontage to help protect and preserve water quality. The Clean Ohio Fund restores, protects, and connects Ohio’s important natural and urban places by preserving green space and farmland, improving outdoor recreation, and by cleaning up brownfields to encourage redevelopment and revitalization of communities.
The Clermont County Park District operates five parks, two nature preserves, and two green spaces; the Park District is also in the planning and development stage of a new park in Union Township on Tealtown Road, and a bike trail that will connect the Villages of Williamsburg and Batavia.
