Batavia, Ohio. Visitors to the Clermont County Park Districts' Sycamore Park in Batavia will probably do a double-take when they see the two giant boulders located near the front of the park. "We hope people will run right over and start climbing them," said Clermont County Park District Director Chris Clingman. "The boulders are actually playground equipment with foot and hand holds on the side that can simulate a true rock climbing experience."
Gingerly climbing up the side of the larger of the two rocks, Park Board member Ken Stewart said that this attraction is designed for the entire family to enjoy. It's great to see everyone lauging and having a good time together at the park," he said. "We really enjoy being the first place in the county you can go to experience the giant boulders."
The boulders are actually made out of a fiberglass reinforced concrete and are designed so that if you fall, you will fall away from the boulder. The ground beneath the structure is cushioned by a wood fiber safety mat. The challenge is to climb around the boulder using different hand and foot holds.
"These climbing boulders are designed to get people moving,"said Clermont County Park District Board member Dave Anspach, watching a steady stream of children scale the rocks. "Family togetherness is what our parks are all about."
